Tata Sky Chooses Bitstream Panorama Technology for Hindi Programming Guide

Cambridge, MA,  October 15, 2008 – Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS), a leading software development company with core competencies in browsing, font and publishing technologies, announced today that Tata Sky, a joint venture between the TATA Group and STAR, has licensed Bitstream’s Panorama TM technology for use in their recently released Hindi electronic programming guide in India.  This programming guide is the first guide available in Hindi, making it the first of its kind in the India pay-TV market.

Bitstream Panorama enables developers to draw strings of characters and lay out complex lines of text, including the composing, positioning and rendering of text. Bitstream Panorama supports all languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, Indic, and Thai scripts. 

The new programming guide gives Tata Sky subscribers the choice of navigating the four-day TV listings in English or Hindi.  Hindi is the national language and one of the most widely read and understood languages in India.  Having the Hindi language as an option makes it easier for millions of viewers across the country to plan and organize their TV viewing more effectively.
